Provide "desktop" file for linux binary version

Request to provide .desktop files similar to how Syncthing binaries provide it by default: https://github.com/syncthing/syncthi.../linux-desktop and readme file for new users.

Thebinary installer already installs desktop files automatically.

I guess it doesn't work for me because I'm using "isolated" install. Isn't it possible to provide desktop file there (to default location ~/calibre-bin) so that users can copy to /usr/local/share/applications or ~/.local/share/application ?

Possible, sure, worth the effort to me, no. Patches welcome.

My advice to you is use to use an official package, or to adjust your expectations. To me it seems very natural that if I insist on doing a custom install then I should expect to have to write my own .desktop files. If you are willing to use a provided package then the packager has likely included .desktop files for you, e.g.:
