Migration to new computer
Hello
I have been using Calibre for a few years now. I am running it on a Windows 10 platform. I am using Calibre version 8.10.0 The library with the books is located on the Microsoft Cloud OneDrive. The metadata is located there as well. I am moving to a new computer on Windows 11. So basically, I think I need to install calibre on the new computer and then point it to the Microsoft OneDrive folder in which the books and the metadate are located. Unfortunately, I did not find the corresponding instructions online. Can someone help? Thanks |

That said, get a USB stick to copy the library and your settings to and then you can use that to copy from the USB stick to your new computer. But again, DO NOT LET THE ONEDRIVE APP TOUCH YOUR LIBRARY! |

Or use Calibre's built in export and import which creates multiple Zip files that can be copied.

Is there a step by step? I too have to transfer my library from one laptop to the other. Last time I did it, it didn't remember any of my settings and I had to import all of those again. I'm sure I missed a step.

As suggested you can either use the import/export tool or you can backup your libraries and calibre configuration folder if you are migrating to the same OS family (Windows => Windows, Linux => Linux). Migrating between different host OS, the export/import tool is covers issues such as case sensitivity.
The last time I helped with migrating to a different machine, we backed up the old installation's libraries and configuration folder to a USB drive, installed calibre on the new computer and then copied the configuration folder and libraries to the same locations as on the old computer. The libraries were accessible and the plugins and configuration were in place when we started calibre on the new machine. |

The Export / Import copies all settings and stuff.

The export and import functions are really well designed in Calibre. I moved from Windows 10 to Linux recently, and everything just worked. All my UI tweaks, library metadata, plugins, and everything were moved to the new Linux system. Marvelous.

I am using calibre 8.10
Export/Import library have gone away (or I can't find them anymore). I've asked here where they are but did not get any reply (I am running it on MACOS) |

Check Preferences > Change Calibre Behaviour > Toolbars & Menus and make sure Calibre Library Icon is on one.
Pressing the Apple equivalent of Ctrl-P may work (is it a 4 leaf clover for Control key?) |

I'm on a Mac, using an older Calibre version than you, but if this doesn't get you exactly there, it should get you pretty close:
Use cmd , (i.e. the cmd key with the comma key) to open Preferences (this is a standard way to open mac preferences). Top line is Interface, fourth option across is Toolbars & Menus Click the drop-down to choose which toolbar or menu you want to use, then add "Choose library" from "Available actions" to "Current actions". Press Apply (bottom-right), then Close (bottom-right). You should see the "Calibre Library" option on your menubar or toolbar, depending on which you choose. From that menu/button, choose "Export/import all Calibre data". I hope that's helpful. |
