Inkpad 3 or Inkpad 4?
Hello!
Im currently stuck choosing between the Inkpad 3 and 4. I've read a lot of conflicting things, from a lot of people. Some say 4 is slower, some say 4 is much faster. Some say the display on the new one is far worse, while others say it's significantly better. Quite frankly, i don't need audiobooks or anything like that. I just want a good, fairly durable e reader which i can fill with books, and due to that, i find the Inkpad 3's sd card slot very helpful. Still, does the 4 have any advantages over the 3, other than maybe longer support/parts? I know only about the usb c as something definitively better on the 4, and im already thinking of modding a 3 to have the newer port. It can't be that hard, can it? Also, does the inkpad 3 support formats such as CBZ? The official spec sheet doesn't include it... Im asking here cuz you all seem to understand this stuff more than me, sorry if a thread like this already exists. I just wanted to inquire about the constant inconsistencies in spec comparisons. Thank you ![]() (Ps: love the old forum vibe )

Hi, the manuals says both Pocketbook Inkpad 3 and 4 supports cbz:
https://www.manua.ls/pocketbook/inkpad-3/manual?p=13 https://www.manua.ls/pocketbook/inkpad-4/manual?p=13 I'd liked this video review, what I'd liked from the 4 is the glass water and scretch resistant screen (don't know about the 3), has physical buttons (on the bottom, not on side), has a very nice integrated cover attachment, within magnets closure; doesn't has microSD but 32GB are quite some space (but imho); althought it seems a little more weighted than predecessors (262gr vs 210gr), darkmode on defaults' availability (white text on black backgound). The review explains the Company did spend its effort to optimize user experience and firmware. |

It depends on the price. If you can get the Inkpad 3 at a good price, I’d go with the Inkpad 3—it holds very well in the hand and is extremely light. The Inkpad 4 has identical hardware: same CPU, same RAM. Despite using E-INK 1200, it doesn’t offer better contrast than version 3, and it’s significantly heavier. CBR/CBZ files work perfectly on the Inkpad 3. Of course, if both devices are offered at the same purchase price, the logical choice is the Inkpad 4. Apart from its built-in speakers, you won’t notice much difference compared to the Inkpad 3. In terms of hardware—CPU and similar components—the Inkpad 4 is essentially the Inkpad 3 in a new casing. The Inkpad 3 still receives updates, and since the hardware is identical, it will likely continue to receive them for some time, in my opinion. PS: Additionally—and this might interest you—the Inkpad 3 has an SD card slot. Quote:
—because in terms of speed, the Inkpad 4 is just as sluggish as a $100 PocketBook. And new features? Nothing has changed in over 10 years including the user interface. The settings are the same as on a Kindle: apart from font size, margins, and line spacing, it can’t do much else. If it weren’t possible to install KOReader on a PocketBook, I would never have bought one. Last edited by Michal Jancik; 10-20-2025 at 12:56 PM. |

Pocketbooks have even less settings than Kindles do! Their built-in reading software literally can’t justify text.

Range of supported formats for Inkpad 3 is impressive.
Light device, SD-card support. I will go with color version, Inkpad 4. Cheers! |
