KFX to EPUB: "locked by DRM"
Trying to convert KFX to EPUB, this is what I get:
calibre, version 8.5.0 Cannot convert... This book is locked by DRM. I have the KFX Input plugin, the latest (10.0.9) DeDRM plugin, and my Kindle serial number is set correctly in the plugin config. What do I need to do to make this work? Last edited by Phssthpok; 09-04-2025 at 09:32 AM. |

Not to mention that KFX is not a natively supported format in calibre you need to install the KFX input plugin.

Update: I had used Calibre to save the book from the Kindle. Now I went directly to the Kindle document folder and dragged from there to Calibre, and it worked. Sorry for all the confused posts. Last edited by Phssthpok; 09-04-2025 at 09:39 AM. |

there should be a "device" menu in the main toolbar, click on it. you should now get a list of all the books on your kindle. right click a book you want to import and select "add books to library" then try again with the from kfx menu |

Hi folks, i'm using the kindle app for mac OS, and have just installed calibre, KFX Input and DeDRM 10.0.9 plugins, restarted, then selected my book from my kindle folder (below), clicked on convert and tried to output to PDF, but get the dreaded "locked by DRM" error like others have mentioned. What am i doing wrong?

That was probably my mistake -- I chose "save book to disk" instead. However, all's well that ends well.

For new Kindle eBooks, you will need Kindle Reader in order to be able to download eBooks that you can then remove the DRM.

When you say "Kindle Reader" i'm assuming you mean the physical device? So, i'm also presuming that new eBooks can only be downloaded onto a Kindle Reader and Mac/Windows are not supported? But if i'm reading older eBooks say pre Dec 2023, can I still use the Windows laptop/desktop? |
