Kobo Touch - Nickel cannot be installed after update

Dear all,
a week ago my Kobo Touch urged me to do an update, which I unfortunately did.
Now, the UI looks totally different, it tells me it has Software Version 1.9.11 (r32877, 23.09.11). Unfortunately I do not know, which SW version was on there before.
Now, NickelMenu is gone and I cannot install it anymore by pushing the tar-file in the Kobo folder.
Funnily, there is a nm subfolder in the adds folder.
I primarily used this Kobo as a Smart-Home-Display via the integrated browser. The browser seems to have been updated, but I still encounter random freezes (of Wifi e.g.), which I handled nicely in the previous firmware version via ssh - started scripts.

Do you know this problem? Any help is appreciated.

None of the versions number match the current firmware version. The current firmware is 4.38.23429. Have a look in settings and see what the firmware version you are running is.

where should I see this exactly? In Settings->Device Information it shows Software Details: Software Version 1.9.11 (r32877, 23.09.11).

I cannot find any other number or info.

Serial number starts with KG31B...

Serial number starts with KG31B...

Firmware 1.9.11 is very old. It''s from 2011. You do need to update your firmware to something recent.

I think it's safe to say the device did a full factory reset back to the version it was shipped with.
