Farewell to Pocket indeed. Mozilla seemed determined to kill it, despite numerous third parties offering to buy the thing. Alas...

Excited to test the Instapaper integration, though! My backlog of longform articles has continued to grow since July when Pocket stopped allowing new sends.

We Kobo owners are in luck! 🎉

It was a pleasant surprise to see that Pocket — may it rest in peace — has been replaced so quickly with Instapaper. And not just replaced, but with an app of equal or even better quality in many ways.

A big thank you and congratulations to the Kobo developers for making this transition in such a relatively short time. It really shows commitment to keeping our devices useful and up to date.

Pushed the update to my Clara HD (the sacrificial lamb...I'll update my Sage later) and tried out the Instapaper integration.

Sign-up was scanning a QR code. I have reservations about that approach, but it's certainly speedier than trying to type in my password on the Kobo keyboard.

The UI feels pretty much identical to what it was like when it was Pocket. I guess they did just enough backend changes to make it work with IP's plumbing.

Pretty smooth, overall. The price is reasonable enough that I just might buy a year of IP Premium to help keep the service afloat and hopefully avoid it joining the Pocket graveyard!

Those are the changes from the release notes. It doesn't mean there haven't been other bug fixes.

I'll have to test the new firmware with the patches to see what works and what doesn't. I hope there are not too many changes to mess with the patches.

The following patches do not work as is. I hope it's just a matter of needing a new offset. There could be other patches that do not work. But from my long list of patches, these are the ones that do not work.

Pocket disappeared, but I can't see any Instapaper's option on my Libra Colour. I did uprade to 4.43.23418... Update info says "various bug fixes. stability improvements"

The InstaPaper link is the same as the Pocket was; on the More menu, My Articles.

For me, when I updated my Sage and KLC, I had to do a couple of restarts before the My Articles item showed in the More menu. The Clara HD showed it immediately after the restart from the firmware update. From what I have noticed with InstaPaper is that anything that worked with Pocket works with Instapaper. On the sad side, anything that did not work with Pocket is likely to be equally unhappy with InstaPaper. If you download an article that has webp images, you will just see a placeholder.
