				PRS700 - Temperature Warning?

I was a little bit shocked to READ that an eReader would succumb

to a frigid death if not cared for in a way to avoid cold tempuratures. Normally, I would think that electronics should withstand harsh cold temperature exposure or at least recover but apparently not the case with eInk? The kindle uses a different display than sony, and the Epson controller may or may not work the same way but my guess is that it doesn't. Perhaps we need a torture test conducted? (toss an eReader in the freezer??) According to the user manual: PRS700 Operating temperature 41 to 95 °F (5 to 35 °C) So below 5°C or 41, is it to be expected that the reader would fail to operate? or does it mean that it would simply not turn on? I've left my reader in the trunk of my car many times where temps have dipped below -15C and so far all is well. Perhaps another (hidden) benefit of having a touch panel is the added protection from the elements??

It ghosts more when it is cold, and there is the possibility it will hurt it after prolonged exposure(there's another thread on this topic).

But from what I understand, the Kindle and the Reader have the same exact display. And I would recommend keeping your 700 nice and warm and snuggled. |
