Unknown symbol

I must accidentally pressed/swiped something, and this symbol appeared at the top left corner.
I don't understand what is it for.
I don't remember seeing it before, but I might be wrong.
Looking through the swipes, taps and other gestures didn't help me much.
Any idea what is it and how I can turn it off?

Well, after a couple of chapters, it disappeared.
I don't remember doing anything other than changing pages, but then again..

Helpful link, thank you.
Trying it now (very long pressing a word), shows this symbol, but when the menu appears the symbol disappears.
In my case, the symbol was there for a long time, even after changing pages, chapters and sending the device to sleep.
Why was that?

Unfortunately, as I said, it must be an accidental move when I was trying to get comfortable in the bed..😔
If I ever find a way to replicate it, I'll create an issue at GitHub.

It is a known bug. There was a discussion on GitHub a while back (>1 year ago I think, but unfortunately I couldn't find it).

The bug is reproduced like this: While the pokeball shows (i.e., while performing a very-long-press), touch the screen with a second finger (without releasing the first one yet). This causes the symbol to remain stuck on screen until another long-press/very-long-press is performed on the text.

Yeap.. I can reproduce it.
Not a serious bug, just concerned because I haven't see it before..

BTW, where can the "very long press" be used?
Is there a specific action that is taking advantage of it or is it a future feature placeholder?

I think the original reason for its introduction was for users who like highlights applied directly to text selections. Using very-long-press, they can then still access the pop-up menu when needed (very-long-press at the end of the selection).

Personally, I use it to access the highlight pop-up menu on single word selections, which would otherwise launch a dictionary look-up on regular long-press.
