Kobo Desktop Edition question
I opened Kobo Desktop Edition yesterday, and I saw a popup that said that soon I will only be able to buy ebooks on the online store. Is that new?
Today, I opened the app, but I didn't see the popup. Thanks. |

That has been in the app since version 4.38.23081 was released in the summer of 2024. As far as I understand, the next release will lose the ability to make purchases. That version is likely to be released when the next Kobo firmware rollout starts.

Even if Kobo Desktop does allow you to download KePub, we don't know if Obok would be compatible with the new version.

Thanks.
Should I keep the app or uninstall it? |

We don't know that it wouldn't? Seems like a weird conclusion to jump to. Most likely Kobo just doesn't want to keep updating the desktop app for security purposes required by payment companies. They aren't the first to do something similar. For example Sony won't let you pay with a credit card to buy PS3 games anymore, you have to add funds online and then buy the game.

But who don't know if Obok will work with the new version. Just like DeDRM doesn't work with the current K4PC.

It's not the first time that Kobo rolls out updates, and so far, I updated the Desktop App countless times (and countless times I upgraded my Kobo firmware version), and Obok survived intact each time. |

theres no indication yet that it wont work anymore. the kobo desktop app has updated multiple times since that notification showed up. no need for fear mongering
