Kobo Launches Official Amazon Store in the US, Bypassing Third-Party Sellers

https://www.ereadersforum.com/thread...-sellers.5118/

Quote:
It looks like Kobo has officially launched its own Kobo US storefront on Amazon, marking a shift in how they sell their ereaders and accessories in the United States. The store, listed under the business name Rakuten Kobo US Inc, appears to be directly operated by Kobo, unlike previous listings that were sold through third-party resellers like Blue Proton. ...

I wonder if this will lead to the sale of Kobo gift cards on Amazon, as well. AFAIK you can buy them on Amazon CA but not Amazon US.

In the past I think I have seen Kobo (themselves) selling eReaders on Amazon, but this doesn't seem to be the case here.

I clicked on the Libra Colour, U.S. site: sold by Kobo U.S., shipped from Amazon.

As others have pointed out, there is an official kobo store on amazon.

As to prices, I have seen higher prices on ereaders from other manufacturers on their official amazon stores, maybe to pay amazon's cut or to encourage buying elsewhere and the storefront exists only to satisfy demand from people that want to buy from amazon to avoid sketchy retailers or because amazon is the only realistic source in their location.

Okay, now I see that. But the Sage, Elipsa 2E and white Clara Colour are all linking to Blue Proton as the seller. And the Clara BW is going to Triplenet Pricing (you have to click "buying options" to get to Triplenet in this case).

As I've mentioned in another post, Kobo USA has sold eReaders directly on Amazon in the past. So this "Kobo" storefront seems to be what I've been seeing for Kobo at Amazon for a while now. Mostly Blue Proton, who have their own Kobo page for new and used Kobos. (I kind of figured Blue Proton picked up where Walmart left off.)

I'm being offered $7.50 off a $50 gift card.

Plus, use can use reward points and earn 5% on the purchase if using an Amazon Prime Visa.

Think tariffs. That's my guess for the higher prices.

It seems a little wonky currently.

When I search for "Kobo", my first hit is the Libra colour for $229, one day shipping. If I click on the "Visit the Kobo Store" from this page, the Kobo Store page shows the Libra Colour as "Currently unavailable". The Clara BW shows a price of $160, and when I click on the link, where the price is normally on the right, it says "Not competitively priced".

Hot damn! That's a great stress reliever, considering that Walmart yanked the last remaining Kobo gift card options from their website not long ago.

One plus, IMO, is that ordering and shipping will be better through Amazon then Kobo.

Blue Proton and Triplenet often sell Kobos for higher prices (even used ones), especially when Kobo is out of stock on a particular model.

It looks like the only readers Kobo currently has in stock (on their own website) are the Libra Colour, the Clara BW and the Elipsa 2E.
