Joplin alternative for exporting highlights?

I have a Joplin Cloud account and after reading the KOReader wiki on setting up Highlight exports via Joplin. It sounded like A LOT of hassle, so I came here to search for help on how to do it. In the process I came across mention that Joplin is usboptimal for purpose and suppor for it will be removed from KOReader anyway.

SO, what is the simplest alternative? As I'm paying for Joplin, I would rather not pay for a service that I would only use for exporting KOReader highlights

I do use Joplin but only for note taking with syncthing, never tried KOReader highlights as backup.

I'm partially the source.

Joplin isn't intended for this task. Instructions are hard to follow because they involve tunnels and running those on a regular computer where the joplin server is active, in order to forward a feature available on localhost, "web clippings", to other devices.

It will be removed soon, when we're sure nextcloud notes works as advertized and can be a replacement for joplin.

Thanks for the confirmation. Is nextcloud free? As I'm just looking for a way to share snippets of writing as I come across them without having to plug my reader in, if it's a paid service, I'll stick with taking a photo and using Google Translate as OCR.

It is free software that you can run on your computer.

It seems some providers offer a demo/little free account:

Why remove? I just checked it, it works as expected.
My books folder+KOReader sidecar folders of reader-device is synchronized with desktop via Syncthing.
Note that : I'm using Joplin highlight export feature on desktop version of KOReader only not from the reader-device itself.
I think nice to have this feature to dump all highlights to Joplin, time to time. I'd like to use it in future if not removed,
If necessary make this Joplin specific export feature available to desktop versions only.

Nextcloud is nice but personally I don't prefer using internet for this simple use-case

Thanks - that seems like it would be perefct - it will take quite a few "love that sentence/paragrap" clippings to fill up 2GB, I suspect

Don't worry. You'll still be able to use it after removal

I took some time to make sure exporter targets can be deployed as standalone plugins. So I now can deprecate freely

Exporter targets that were once upstream will end in https://github.com/koreader/contrib/...rters.koplugin

At the same time anybody can write its own exporter, like https://github.com/fairlygood/provid...ights.koplugin

So it is a win-win-win scenario.
