PRS-505 Rebooting

I have a PRS-505. The reader is randomly rebooting when I either go to load an eBook, or reformat for a different font (sometimes even on Page Turns). The key to it is it seems to be:

1) Terrible when it is a book that was converted from a Secure MSReader format, ConvertGUI to downconvert, then the resulting file converted to lrf though calibre (Every book).

2) Not as severe, an Secure-MobiReader format, MobiDeDRM to downconvert, then the resulting file converted to lrf though calibre (random, though not every book).

There is a thread on the MobileRead Forums under Sony Readers,

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34284

that shows this as a known problem with the new Sony firmware and files converted through Calibre.

My question is this, is there a work-around that can be used to correct this short of using the lousy Sony eReader software as suggested in the above mentioned thread? Perhaps converting to ePub instead of lrf?

Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated, as this constant rebooting on every new ebook is getting old - the re-read time going through the SD card is long (there are a lot of books on it) and it seems to lose the Collections/Bookmarks after a couple of boots. I really don't want to just keep a couple of books on the reader, either, as this defeats having the ability to store a large library on the reader.

Thanks,

DCM

If you plan on using LRF format than answer is no. You must use Sony software for transfering files.

If you do not care about format you have option of using plain text or epub. Both of these are inferior in terms of rendering quality, especially epub which even use different fonts than lrf format.

CaptOzone I've used eBook Library to transfer many eBooks to my 505 and I've found it works quite nicely. I don't think eBook Library is lousy. What makes you think it's lousy?

kiklop74 why is it you think ePub is inferior to LRF? Its just different is all and in some ways, more advanced.

It is inferior because all epub documents I tried look so bad on the screen compared to the lrf. That is why I stick to lrf. Furthermore fonts used in rendering epub are not the same used in rendering lrf, and lrf fonts are better and support more than just latin1 languages which is important to me.

Sony Software, like eBook Library and the infamous Sonic Stage, are barely adequate to get the job done. They work as they are supposed to, but the features I would expect, such as being able to edit many fields for eBook information are simply not there. In this sense, Calibre is superior and I would prefer to use it.

Also, selfishly, I use Linux as my main OS - Windows only if there is an app I absolutely need and do not want to run under VMWare; Calibre runs great under Ubuntu.
