Collections and syncing

I've already read the threads on here about Sage and Collections, but nothing has worked for me when I tried them. Basically, my beloved Aura died a long drawn out, painful death. The usb connector stopped working. On the Aura there was never any problems with Collections and syncing. Did so frequently. However, here is the problem. Calibre has both Shelves and Collections. Worked without problems on the Aura. I bought a Sage replacement - need the biggest screen size possible but wasn't keen on the Elisa. Hate the format so far with the two buttons making it much broader.

Now, when I touch the Collection tab on the Sage it asks me to create a Collection. I have many collections and over 1000 books on Calibre. There is not a chance in hell that I can create my own collections on the Sage. Even stranger, although the books are on the Sage, when I reconnect it to the computer it doesn't show that they're there. I have done the restart, turning it off and on, nada. After I'd transferred the files the first time it started updating but only 6% and then home screen appeared.

Sorry for the wall of text, but help? What am I doing wrong? Should I do a manual reset and begin again? Download one Collection at a time to the Sage and wait for it to update?

Shelves are the same as Collections

The term used by Kobo changed and frankly some if use the terms interchangeably. @jswolf however will attempt to remind everyone to use only Collections .

Now unfortunately if calibre doesn't show the books as being on the Kobo calibre won't be able to perform collection management so let's see if that issue can be resolved.

Firstly, let's run calibre in debug mode, connect the Kobo, eject the Kobo and then post the debug mode that will be displayed. Among other things it will show us the version of calibre and any plugins you're using

I suspect one of the books has errors that prevents the Sage from processing both it and any subsequent books. The solution is to transfer the books one by one until you find the one that cannot be processed. That one should be checked for errors in the calibre editor.

Thanks will do that! Gah! That's alla I have to say. So I should try and transfer a batch. Then see if it updates as it should. If it does, do another batch?

Yes, but if a batch fails, you'll still have to find the book. Or maybe there are more than one.

Tried with one book. Nope. Reset. Tried another book (both btw worked fine with the Aura) still nothing. Except the series that the first one disappeared as well - which wasn't a problem previously.

Oh and the update was around 10% and then home screen appeared.

So now what?

To add, I suspect it's something to do with calibre and not the Sage. But not sure what to do.

Edit: I guess I could manually do one collection at a time and then put all the books into that one. But then I need to add manually efter bloody time I add something to the Sage. And now that series don't work either, it just goes from bad to worse.

Oh, sorry, didn't see your reply. Will try forthwith - I do have both Shelves and Collections since Kobo in ye old days wanted Shelves. I use Calibre 8.2.100 which appears to be the latest. Calibre reminds me when there's a new update.

Edit: Now the books show in Kobo and in Calibre but Series have disappeared.

Edit 2: There is no such thing as restart in debug mode that I can find in the version I use.

Debug mode is found under calibre Preferences.

Series info being transferred requires a second connection to calibre after the books have been added to the Kobo database (the import message being displayed on the Kobo screen). It's also best if you have Metadata management set to automatic in calibre preferences

Created new Collections column. Put a few books into them. Still nothing. However, I created a custom column my series and now the series are back at least.

This is driving me batty.

Because I'm a complete idiot I found debug on restart under Preferences. Have now started it. Will copy report and post.
