Default Koreader setting work to me
You can choose a book cover or a custom image as screensaver via this menu: TOP MENU / / Screen / Screensaver You can use JPG/PNG files as screensaver (properly dithered grayscale images look best). Transfer the files from your computer into any folder on your device. And choose this folder as your screensaver folder via this menu: TOP MENU / / Screen / Screensaver / Settings Please refer to this Mobileread forum post for advanced information about preparing screensaver |

The thing is, Kindles are very fussy about the formatting (dimensions, bit depth, etc) of the screensavers; the values tend to vary between Kindle models and there is a real risk your Kindle will end up in a boot loop if you mess it up.
Now, if you still want to go ahead despite the warning, the easiest way to do this on HF firmware is as follows:
Good luck! |

I noticed that while my Kobo ereaders didn't care about the images placed in their screensaver directory (colour was rendered as B&W, size was stretched, etc.), my Kindle PW4 crashed when I placed a couple of colour images of M. C. Escher art in the screensavers directory. I also tried renaming them to replace an existing screensaver but still crashed. I finally ended up editing the images to match the characteristics (size & colour depth) of an existing image and then they worked.
