Updating Firmware of Jailbroken Kindle.
I recently jailbroke my kindle scribe. However, it is on firmware 5.16.3 and I would like to update it to 5.17.3, but I'm not sure how to do so properly. I found some other theads on updating a jailbroken kindles while browsing the forums, but they all predate Winterbreak, so I am not sure how applicable those threads still are.

Thanks to the guidance provided by Bucks from the Kindle Modding Community Discord, I successfully updated my Kindle Scribe. Here were the steps I took:
1. Enable Airplane mode 2. Within the renametobin's menu, click the Restore option 3. After the reboot, add the firmware file to the Kindle's root and update the device like you normally would. 4. Reinstall hotfix and run it (in my case, after the update performed in step 3, I was able to run hotfix, but KUAL was broken and the ;log mrpi command wasn't working; reinstalling hotfix fixed this). 5. Reinstall KUAL and MRPI 6. Finally, I went back to renametobin's menu and clicked the Rename option I hope this may be of help to anyone else. |

Basically, I followed the procedure in @Kargi's message and my test PW 10th Gen is now on 5.18.1 and the jailbreak is still working. So it appears that Amazon did not break WinterBreak with this firmware update. KOReader ran happily. When I tried USBNetLite, I got a network connection refused though I could ping the Kindle from my computer. I re-installed USBNetLite and it seems happy again.

Unless I have missed something, it is not yet known whether an unjailbroken kindle running 5.18.1 is susceptable to WinterBreak.

It's at least safe to say that an existing jailbreak will carry through the update and be reactivated with the hot fix.
