Status bar items: Wi-Fi status?

Hello,

Some people mention that it is possible to include an indicator of the wi-fi status in the Status Bar: top > settings > status bar > status bar items > wi-fi status.

However that item is not included in my status bar settings. I'm using PocketBooks, it that the reason? Is there a workaround?

It is restricted to platforms where checking if wifi is enabled doesn't block the UI thread.

Current supported devices involve android, kindle, kobo and remarkable.

I know for a fact that cervantes already supports it even when it isn't currently declared. I'm fairly sure pocketbooks are not compatible. I wouldn't mind to be wrong.
