Kobo Nia N306 not accepting input problem

Hi everyone, I recently got an old Kobo Nia. I'm having a strange problem where every few pages the device seems to stop accepting input. It also happens after a random amount of time on the main menu pages like My Books.

It doesn't seem to be really freezing. When I plug it into my computer the connect window comes up and I can hit the connect button so it accepts that input, and if I put it to sleep and wake it up it will work normally for a few more pages.

I thought it might have been a book causing the issue but I've tried multiple single books both before and after converting them to kepub and it didn't help. I've also tried reinstalling the image and that didn't help either.

I cant really find any information about this specific issue, most discussion related to this is about the device actually freezing. If anyone has run into this before, has any idea what could be causing this, or any advice on how to fix it it would be appreciated.
