Struggling with Calibre conversion Amazon drm books

Good morning all
I'm new to the Group so if this is in the wrong place or against the rules I apologise in advance.

I have a kindle fire hd 8 7th Gen tablet.

I have about 10 kindle books which I thought I owned.

Turns out I don't, I saw Amazon were stopping the download back up feature. So I downloaded mine before the cut off date.

I watched the tutorials on removing drm using calibre and dedrm plugin followed it to the letter.

Put my fire hd serial number in the customise part of plug in

Dragged one of my books in to calibre, pressed convert, it started up and the flashed up failed due to drm security.

I tried again in debug mode, same thing.

I've tried it using windows 10 pc and a Linux pc

Am I missing something?

I want to move from Amazon books and on to kobo but don't want to lose the books I've paid for.

Thanks in advance

A Fire isn't a real Kindle. It's Amazon's version of an Android tablet with an app. So no "eink Kindle" method works.

As Quoth mentioned, LCD Fire tablets are not eink Kindle ereaders. They are completely different devices that run a completely different OS. They just happen to have once been branded Kindle Fire long, long, ago. They haven't been branded Kindle Fire since 2013 because of the confusion. DeDRM has never worked on files from Fire tablets.
