Problem with Upgrading to 4.128

I upgraded to 4.128 and successfully installed it (or so I thought). But when I open the program, the message on the upper right still says I have the old 0.4.121 and a red alert about the availability of 0.4.128. Is that a typo or did I really fail to install the latest version?

Looks like you're still running the old version

In the past when I've updated the software the new version replaces the old one. I didn't do anything different this time, so I don't understand why the new one didn't replace the old one. Not sure what to do. I guess I'll go repeat the steps and see if anything changes.

I just downloaded and installed 4.129 and same problem -- it still appears as if I'm opening 4.121!!!! I'm sorry but I don't know what to do now; I've updated many times in the past month and this has never happened (until yesterday). It appears that 4.121 doesn't want to go away on my computer.

I'm so sorry, I didn't see your message before I took the next step (and posted)! If I uninstall would I lose all the book information currently in my Calibre library? [I guess it doesn't matter if I have to take this step anyway. ]

No uninstalling only removes program files.

You probably won't believe this:

I uninstalled Calibre through the Control Panel options. Re-downloaded 4.129. Installed 4.129. Opened Calibre, and GOT THE SAVE VERSION!! Still says "4.121 . . . Latest version: 0.4.128" on the upper right. So I repeated the steps. This time after uninstalling I closed out Control Panel, returned, and verified that the program is no longer listed in the Add or Remove Programs folder. Went to the c: drive and saw that there is a Calibre folder under the c:\Programs. Tried to delete the folder but got an error message saying I can't delete it. So I thought maybe I should leave it alone. Reinstalled 4.129. Same result.

Some creature is in my computer!! I'm sorry to continue to bother you about this, but do you have another suggestion? I loved your program and I want to use it again.

Uninstall, delete the calibre folder. You may have to reboot in safe mode to be able to delete that folder

Thanks for the suggestion! But, sorry, not tech savvy here (as if it were not obvious by now) -- what does "reboot in safe mode" mean?

Thank you for your help. I think I got it. I just opened my newly installed Calibre and it shows the right version. So I'm happy! And I'm glad the library remains intact.

Do you have any idea what I did to have incurred the problem in the first place? I'd like to avoid doing it again if possible.

Also, I'm sorry if this sounds dumb, but how come the newly installed version has all my books in the library when I not only uninstalled the other version but also deleted the Calibre folder in the c drive? How does this newly installed version know the ebook directory I previously used?

calibre stores its configuration information in your home directory, not in its program directory
