Floating indicator/button on the cover and more control options on the web server

You have revolutionized the world of ebooks with this excellent software. There is still a lot of work, such as using artificial intelligence to improve voice reading of books. This allowed not only a more natural voice and diction but also reading PDF files. But the immediate suggestion I have is another, you inserted, well, a button for us to add files to the book. This is very interesting because, for example, I have books with audios and other PDF worksheets. Grouping everything together makes perfect sense. However, the viewing of this material is hidden. To know that that file has other material, I will have to edit the metadata and click on the files button. This is not practical at all. What do you think about creating a kind of floating indicator on the cover photograph so that we know that that book has more material. It would be interesting if this indicator was clickable. Maybe it would give a list of the files. Another suggestion to enrich this button is to create sub files and sub folders to better relate the material, instead of just being in a list. Lastly, I love your browser for accessing caliber on other devices with the caliber server connected. You did an excellent job!! What I miss is more options. For example, knowing what each user has read or downloaded, allowing them to only download a specific number of books per day or month, or even controlling the time spent in that library. This helps a lot in controlling children. Count on my donation you deserve it!!!!

When a book has data files that information is shown in the book details panel on the right. And if you prefer to see it in a column you can do so by setting up a custom column based on templates. Once you have the column you can add an emblem to the cover grid based on it via Preferences->Look & feel->Cover grid->Emblems.

As for adding access control/spying on user activity to the content server, I'm afraid I have no interest in adding such functionality. You can restrict what books a given user account has access to and whether the user account can make changes to the library, thats all.

Agradeço ter respondido! Eu não entendi muito bem para ser honesto. O Calibre é muito poderoso e tem funções incriveis que ainda não as explorei todas porque muitas delas requer conhecimento técnico. Seria útil então ter um vídeo mostrando esta possibilidade, em relação à possibilidade de agrupar num mesmo livro vários ficheiros e sub-pastas.

Eu penso que é uma capacidade que faz toda diferença. Imagine por exemplo numa trilogia. Você até pode colocar os 3 livros separados no calibre. Mas não faz mais sentido deixar a obra toda junta? Podemos pensar por exemplo num conjunto de 2 livros de aprendizado de idioma com uma pasta de ficheiros de áudio. Se o Calibre possibilitar colocar numa entrada esses ficheiros e ao clicar escolhemos o que queremos ver. Nesse caso faz sentido na mesma entrada termos 2 pastas, uma com os dois livros e outra com os áudios. Isto faz do Calibre mais do que um repositório avançado de material digital como lhe dá mais organização em agrupar as obras. Era nesse sentido o meu comentário

Sobre o servidor, eu tive a ver as opções, você é muito avançado! Eu adorei o facto de ter tido o cuidado de criar legendas para cada opção! O seu trabalho é impecável! Custa a acreditar como existem pessoas tão dotadas!

Na minha rede local, tratando-se dos meus alunos da escola, eu quero definir não só o que cada grupo pode aceder (isso é possível) como ter controlo da quantidade de material que podem transferir. Seria interessante pelo menos ter essa possibilidade, controlar a quantidade. Quando coloco para ler o livro na plataforma, não transferindo para o dispositivo, ele transfere na mesma. Seria interessante abrir um navegador de leitura do Calibre para impedir transferir os livros quando definimos que aquele usuário só pode ler o livro

Este tipo de controlo mais apurado torna possível o uso ilimitado na minha escola.

Claro que devemos ter preocupação com espionagem, é um tema muito atual! O objetivo é perceber se estão a cumprir com o propósito e por isso as opções sugeridas que penso ser interessantes para este fim.

Seja como for, o Calibre exatamente como está é perfeito! Eu adoro! Eu li a critica internacional e a imprensa e até perguntei ao Chat GPT, todo mundo adora! Thank you for responding! To be honest, I didn’t fully understand. Calibre is very powerful and has incredible features that I haven’t fully explored yet because many of them require technical knowledge. It would be useful to have a video showing this possibility, specifically regarding grouping multiple files and subfolders into the same book.

I believe this is a feature that makes all the difference. Imagine, for example, a trilogy. You could add the three books separately in Calibre, but wouldn’t it make more sense to keep the entire collection together? For instance, think of a set of two language-learning books with a folder of audio files. If Calibre allows placing these files in one entry, where clicking on it lets us choose what to view, it makes sense to have two folders within the same entry: one with the two books and another with the audio files. This not only makes Calibre a more advanced digital repository but also provides better organization by grouping works. That’s the idea behind my comment.

Regarding the server, I looked at the options, and you are incredibly advanced! I loved that you took the care to create subtitles for each option! Your work is impeccable! It’s hard to believe there are such talented people!

On my local network, which involves my school’s students, I want to define not only what each group can access (which is possible) but also control the amount of material they can transfer. It would be interesting to at least have this feature, to manage the quantity. When I set a book to be read on the platform without downloading it to the device, it still transfers. It would be useful to have a Calibre reading browser to prevent downloads when we set a user to "read-only" access.

This kind of advanced control makes unlimited use in my school possible.

Of course, we must also be concerned about espionage—it’s a very current issue! The goal is to ensure users comply with the intended purpose, which is why I think these suggested features could be interesting in this regard.

That said, Calibre, as it stands, is already perfect! I love it! I’ve read international reviews, media articles, and even asked ChatGPT, and everyone loves it! At this time, a calibre library entry can only contain one book (multiple formats but only one title). For me, search works well to keep a group of books together such as Eric Flint's 1632/Ring of Fire books or J. D. Robb's In Death series so I don't need to worry about the directory structure. Consider calibre's library a black box and don't worry about how it is organized.

For me the biggest advantage of calibre is it's search capabilities making the complex directory structures I used to use to organize my ebooks an unfond memory. Want a group of books? Search for a term that is unique to them such as 'Grantville Gazette' or 'Swallows and Amazons'. A simple search by author if your metadata is set up properly will not only find primary works by the author but the anthologies where the author was a contributor.

Currently, you can place whatever you like in the data files such as an audio book though most people seem to prefer to give those their own library entry where the narrators as well as the authors can be shown. My only real use has been the .zip files containing example code from various programming books.

I’ve never doubted that Calibre is a very powerful software, but I hadn’t thought of this way of using it that you’ve shared! A black box. It’s brilliant! Search is the tool, together with tags, authors, etc. And yes, Calibre has offered very advanced search capabilities since its inception, but I hadn’t realized this potential—using search in a well-documented library and not worrying about the organization of directories. Bravo! The approach you’ve presented is new to me and transformative!

I just want to point out one thing about my approach to organizing books—not everyone has the same capacity as most of you. For instance, I can follow the proposed method, and I really think it’s brilliant! But not everyone can do that, which is why Microsoft Windows exists, haha. Many people like to keep their books organized as if it were the bookshelf at home. They enjoy seeing things physically, and in a way, don’t you agree that seeing books grouped together gives you a sense of "I know where I am"? These people, like some of my colleagues, prefer to keep their books organized in specific groups or collections.

Search is an excellent tool, but not all users configure or use metadata in such a detailed or consistent manner. This can be a challenge, especially for beginners who might not know how to properly configure metadata to make search more efficient. So, I would give them this option.

But you’ve touched on the key point, and this should be the central message of Calibre: “black box.” Calibre has all the tools needed to find anything in the library. I appreciate your perspective, and I’ll start paying more attention to filling out metadata.
