Unstable USB-C connection
Hi
My Libra 2 is a couple of years old now. When I connect to my Mac M1 mini, I'd get periodic disconnect and Mac reports "unsafe ejection" or something like that. I've tried different ports and cables. Some seem worse than others, but none is stable. I don't remember if this was how it was in the beginning, but it's been happening for a while. The port doesn't feel physically loose. The connection is still nice and tight and there is a firm click. Is this common with the libra/kobo? I hope the port isn't going bad. I use Plato and sideload everything. thanks |

Not happening here, but I don't connect very often, as I usually sideload a lot of books at once. Not happening with my Sage either.
I use Windows and a USB-C/USB-C cable I bought from Amazon. |

Not happening here either with either my Sage or Libra Colour using the the USB-A to USB-C cable that came with my Sage or the USB-C to USB-C (actually, a Thunderbolt 3 cable) that I used with a dock for my laptop or a generic USB-C to USB_C cable that I picked up since it's longer than the Thunderbolt cable.
I tend to connect about once per day to transfer new books. |

On both my Aura HD and Libra H2O, I've only had that issue when the cable itself was flaky, e.g. after running it over with a computer chair. I connect quite frequently (several times a week or sometimes several times a day).

It happens to me (in PC) if I use the USB front ports, but not in the rear ones. I think is because the front ports have another cable to connect to the motherboard so with that total length the connection fails. On the contrary, rear ports are directly in the motherboard. Anyway this only happens with the Libra 2, other devices have no problems

It's possible all my cables are bad but then I use the same for other devices and they seem ok. Maybe the kobo is pickier. |

It's possible that the connection between the port and the circuit board is flakey. Or, that there's gunk in the port that doesn't allow an electrically solid connection to the cable. Does holding the cable with a bit of pressure in different directions stop it?

In case of the USB port is damaged it is possible to fix it easily, you just have to ask someone to solder it back (or another one) properly.
--------------------------------------------------------- As I don't really have high hopes about future models I went completely wireless - except the charging of course - to preserve the physical condition of my Libra 2 as long as possible. You can also transfer books wirelessly from your computer, you just need a wifi router on the same network. |

There are various ways to get the books on a Kobo wirelessly, yes. The downside (for me) is that you'll lose series grouping and automatic collections, but this may not be important to everyone, especially the users of third-party reading apps.
OTOH, the USB ports on my two 13-year-old Kindles still work (I charge them regularly) and I doubt I'll be reading on my current Kobos a decade from now. Chances are I've bought something newer long before that. |

I've had this happen with my Pixel phone from time to time. Check and make sure there isn't a build up of dust/debris in the charging port. Take a staple or some other small stiff wire and carefully move it around in the port, blowing to get the loose stuff out.

I believe you could use NickleSeries to help with this.
