Kobo Clara BW - Books on device not showing

Hi everyone, I have a Kobo Clara BW on which I installed syncthing and I synchronized my calibre library folder.

But when I connect the device to Calibre, the books already on the device are not recognized.

How can I tell Calibre to search for books both on the device and in the library (all of them, since I have the entire folder synchronized)?

Thanks

The Kobo driver only reports books indexed in the database on the device. Does Nickel (the Kobo supplied reading software) show these missing books?

Reboot and see if the Kobo then imports all of those books.

How are you 'syncing' ?
My Kobo detects an Eject (USB) to trigger the Processing.

Using a non-Kobo aware sync tool, may not cause the Processing to happen. Rebooting may help.

BTW What are you syncing TO - FROM? Another Kobo?

i have this setup:

1 x Raspberry Pi 5 : calibre is installed on it, it has a folder with complete library and calibre-web activated to access from a web browser to the library. I access to the server in two ways: web browser (to read and to upload new books) and GUI (using VNC)

1 x Kobo Clara BW : i have installed on it Koreader and syncthing (a tool like rclone) to synch calibre library folder on a Kobo local folder. After synching, i read offline with Koreader all the books of my calibre library

1 x iPhone : i read on it using calibre-web

1 x Laptop : i read on it using calibre-web

My goal is to import highlights made in Koreader to my Calibre library and to do that i must use koreader-calibre-sync plugin.
To use this tool i have to open Calibre using GUI (VNC on my raspberry) and connect Kobo Clara BW using Wi-Fi connection.
When i connect my Kobo Clara BW, Calibre doesn't recognize the presence of the entire library on my Kobo internal memory.

As I said above, calibre will ONLY list content that is in the Kobo's database which is populated when the device is disconnected from a USB connection. You could try using NickleMenu to force a library scan on the Kobo

This database is NOT used by the koreader app on the Kobo.

As to how the plugin you mention koreader-calibre-sync locates content on the device I'll have to look at the plugin

The books are all visible from Kobo original firmware.
Now i tried to go in Koreader Settings - > Calibre - > Search settings -> Rescan disk for calibre libraries and it found 4 of 524 books
I have to re-think my workflow, i guess

What location on the Kobo is syncthing saving your library to? Remember that the partition that Kobo expects content to be on is /mnt/onboard/ from the linux side

Personally, I have a directory (eBooks, short and unimaginative) in the root of exposed storage ( /mnt/onboard from the Kobo's side) where calibre copies ebooks to on send to device. If I connected from KOReader, after I safely eject, I will switch back to Nickel and allow it to import all books. If I connected from Nickel, the import will start after I safely eject.

I am using the KoboTouch driver so calibre uses the book list from the Kobo database to match books to the calibre library. This means that Nickel needs to import them so they will show as being on the device.

My preference is to use KOReader's ability to search calibre's metadata.calibre file stored in the root of the exposed storage as a means of locating books. Just too painful when you have multiple books with more than 1 author to try using a directory structure to locate books.

Install NickelMenu.

Here is my config file including an option to rescan for new books. I added that in when I was using KOReader.

I gave up and create another folder on my Kobo Clara BW where i transfered the books from Calibre WiFi connection and they are now recognized in Calibre as expected.

Synchthing is usless in my case, i just use Calibre to send books to the Kobo folder (/mnt/onboard/koreader/)

You might want to check the Kobo eReader.conf file to see what directories have been excluded from being processed.

Take a look at the [FeatureSettings] section for the value of ExcludeSyncFolders and see if the folder you were putting content in was listed there.

Did you ever figure this out? I've got the same issue here.

Rebooting the Kobo seems to help, then occasionally the books disappear from even the Kobo OS, although they're present on the file system. Doing a log out -> log in recovers those books, but this happens more often than I'm comfortable with, and all highlights/read progress is lost

Your issue sounds as if you are having a database corruption issue. You might want to try rebooting your KLC before connecting to calibre to ensure the database is properly closed before the connection and making sure you safely eject (either from within calibre or under Windows, using eject from a right click in File Explorer. Do not use the USB widget in the system tray. Some people have reported that if they wait after the safely eject until the connected and charging screen disappears this keeps them from getting database corruption.

Ah, this explains why Calibre doesn't show anything in the On Device column for my Libra 2. I place my books in library/ instead of Books/ because I don't want nickel to bother indexing them since I don't use nickel at all. I thought Calibre manages its own db but it doesn't.
