Help with Kindle, please!
I have just picked up a cheap Kindle Fire HD 7 (4th Generation), hoping that I can use this with Calibre to remove DRM/convert Kindle books for use on an Android tablet.
However, when I connect to Calibre it gives following errors..... "calibre, version 7.19.0 ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device C:\r\src\src\calibre\devices\mtp\windows\content_e numeration.cpp:690:Failed to create stream interface to write to object:[hr=0x802a0002 wCode=0] Shutdown was already called on this object or the object that owns it. Is what I am trying to do possible or am I wasting my time with this device? If the latter then are there any models of Kindle that will do what I want? Thanks |

That is an error communicating with the device. Usually, this kind of error can be fixed by
following the steps below in sequence. First: 1) Try rebooting both the device and your computer 2) If that does not work, find the files driveinfo.calibre and metadata.calibre on the device and delete them (you can use Windows Explorer or a file manager on the device itself to do this) 3) Reset the device If none of those work, you can use one of the wireless communication methods described here: https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq...kindle-fire-hd '''), |

Note that files downloaded for a Kindle Fire cannot have their DRM removed. If that's why you have the device, you really need an e-Ink based Kindle, not one with "Fire" in its name, as those are just simple android-ish tablets.

They are not called Kindle Fire Tablets. They are called Amazon Fire Tablets. You cannot use one to be able to download Kindle eBooks to be able to remove DRM. You need to have an eInk Kindle to be able to remove DRM from Kindle eBooks or one of the supported versions of KindleforPC or KindleforMac.

It's crazy how the name Kindle is still attached to the Fire, even though Amazon hasn't used that name in 10 years.

People think if it allows you to read eBooks and has a screen, it's a Kindle. The OP has wasted his money as that Fire tablet is useless for what he wants. Hopefully he'll come back, see he's made a mistake and be able to return it.
