Hi! New Kindle Owner
Hello there. I'm Rugger, new Kindle owner (and lover). Found this site through the Kindle forum on Amazon - someone on there mentioned this site as a place to get advice and free ebooks! Well, of course I rushed right over. I'm looking forward to chatting and learning more about the Kinde.

Hello Rugger & welcome to MobileRead. You've been told a truth. This is a great place to find free books, to discuss the whole publishing industry (but particularly e-books), and to talk to other readers of e-books. It's a great gang that has gathered here -- some of us who spend a lot of time here and others who drop in from time to time.
I'm quickly approaching my one-year anniversary with my Kindle. In 2008, I read 56 electronic books, 50 of those on the Kindle. Some of those books were purchased from Amazon, Fictionwise, Baen, and direct from the author. Others were free books downloaded from MobileRead, Feedbooks, Baen, and TOR. I actually made a couple of the books starting from text files found at Project Gutenberg. And we won't even talk about my hoarding behavior having downloaded just about every free book that was even marginally interesting to me -- particularly when the book was being offered free for a limited time. I've laughingly said that as long as I have power to recharge my Kindle and laptop, I have enough books on hand to keep me reading for at least 4 years. (Now don't think that I'll have read through my backlog in 4 years -- there are new books being published every day!) I hope you find as much pleasure from your Kindle. We're glad you dropped in to MobileRead and introduced yourself. We'd like to get to know you better, so tell us more about yourself, particularly the kind of books that you like to read. |

Thanks!
Thanks so much for the warm welcome and the info! It was indeed "arizonareader" whose post I read, which directed me here. Was that you? If so, thanks!
Let's see, I've got pretty eclectic taste in books. I like pretty much everything. So far, I've downloaded "When You Are Engulfed in Flames" by David Sedaris, "Too Fat to Fish" by Artie Lange, "The Princess Diaries" by Meg Cabot, "Emma" by Jane Austen, and about 50-leven samples of random stuff. So, free books through the Kindle store? How do I find them? And I've got a million questions -- where is a good place to start in the forums? I'm a long-time forum participant in other places, but I'm not really familiar with this software! |

THIS place has thousands of free books.....look at the top, under the 'e-book' link, choose the mobipocket format, and go to town. You can sort by author, genre, whatever. The books are lovingly hand formatted by the very talented people here, and you won't be disappointed. Also at the top, is a link called 'forums'. Click on that, and just start following threads that interest you. If you have questions, sing out! Enjoy............ ![]() |
