Disabling screen refresh

Hi,
I'm trying to use my Kobo Forma as a home automation display. I generate png on the server, and then I use sshpass to connect to the Kobo, make it download the png using curl, and display it in fullscreen using fbink. It works as expected, but my issue is that some elements like the clock are refreshing parts of the screen after some time, hiding parts of my image.
I don't know if I'm doing it the right way, maybe it would be better to create an app that runs in fullscreen but I have no idea how to do this

Well, if you're not using it as a reader at all, just stop nickel and sickel.

I really don't know much about all of this, so I have a few questions.
I have an issue with the wifi randomly going down. I need to touch the wifi icon so that the Kobo refreshes the list and then it automatically connects back. I don't know why it's not doing it by itself.
If I kill Nickel, I won't be able to reconnect to the network because there would be no interface, right ?
But I think that's taking the issue in the wrong way, as I really don't want to have to do any action for it to reconnect.
So, do you think I could just create a script that would kill nickel, and let's say every 1min it would check the wifi status, reconnect if needed, and then download the frame to display from the server and show it using fbink ?

Yes, you can use wpa_supplicant directly.
