Calibre Keeps Importing Media

I have set up Calibre and for some reason a lot of media i open or just move on my computer, Calibre wants to import it.
I moved an iso file and Calibre tried to import it. I can't find a setting to stop this.
Calibre is not running when i move or open these files.
Thank you

You have an OS file (open) association for Calibre.exe.
You need to convince the OS you do not want that.

If you are using Windows there is are ways (varies with version) to set associations.

Meanwhile. if using Windows and File Explorer, right click and "Open With".

Check Preferences -> Adding Books -> Automatic adding. Make sure that a folder is not set there.

Did you set environment variable - it prevents the associations being reinstated.

Value doesn't matter, I use 'true' because it's explicit.

It sounds like something stranger than file associations.

That did sound like the calibre auto import folder was set to somewhere silly. Make a useless & point folder and set Calibre's autoimport to use, but don't put anything in it.
Check Preferences -> Adding Books -> Automatic adding: Set to new folder/directory you made, that has nothing in it.

So is calibre always (or often or sometimes) trying to add the last file you opened for some other program when you subsequently open calibre?

Quoth,
I did set it to an empty folder, made no difference.
My library is made up of pdf's as i have a Kindle Scribe, after uninstall and re-install it seems to only open pdf's now.

IIRC you'll need to repeat the unregister before setting the Envar, and just be sure, do a restart after.

FTR - Kovid provided the calibre-debug command and the Envar when when I encountered this issue several years ago. I've no idea why some users run into the issue and not others. However, I suspect it depends on usage patterns; i.e. driving the desktop from process or driving it from data… I'm firmly embedded in the latter camp.
