Single-instance viewer override
Is there a parameter to disregard "allow only a single instance of the viewer" and open a second instance?

cats,
I use the Content server to view additional books rather than remove the tick and restart. The Editor (preview) is also allowed without that change (just don't save ![]() |

Is there a way to do the opposite? When I open a epub from outside calibre and there's already an instance of the viewer, the viewer switches to the new file.
I would like a new instance to be opened whenever I open a epub file using the viewer, when I don't open from calibre. |

Thanks! I'll look into it, hopefully it works!
I remembered doing something like this for Minecraft once, but that was on Windows. I'm on Mac, so I think I can do it in Automator using a shell script, then set that shortcut as the application I want to use to open epub files— maybe? Last edited by arpeggioaccele; 10-22-2023 at 06:50 PM. |

Ok I give up, I have no idea how to do the command line switch on macos
https://superuser.com/questions/3585...dows-shortcuts This says it might be possible, but idk how. I found inside the contents of the epub-viewer application inside the calibre application, there's a unix executable file that will launch a new instance/window of the viewer, but it is tied to a command line interface. That is not exactly ideal. If anyone knows how to trigger a new window of the viewer on macos when opening a epub let me know, thanks. |

Hi, sorry to bump an old thread, but for people stumbling upon this like me, here's how to do it via the commandline (so it will probably also work from other launcher apps, like Alfred and such) :
Code:
/Applications/calibre.app/Contents/ebook-viewer.app/Contents/MacOS/ebook-viewer "/Users/me/Downloads/myfile.epub" --new-instance & |

Thanks.
I was also referring to @arpeggioaccele because that macOS commandline works on macOS, and can then be converted to an App with tools like Platypus : https://sveinbjorn.org/platypus |
