No, this is not an announcement.
It’s been two years since Kobo launched the Kobo Libra 2. After that, we got the Clara 2e and the Elipsa 2e. So, my guess is that we might see a new Libra 2e soon? Or something completely different? |

The Sage is also 2 years old. Who knows. OTOH we may see nothing until the next year.

Well, who knows how Kobo employees decide when to launch a new model, but I think that the Libra 2 is still relatively new to do a refresh.
In terms of features it already has everything that the 2e branded readers have (I think, feel free to correct me). So rebranding the Libra to the 2e branding makes little sense unless it introduced something new. In terms of wants, I'd like them to make another attempt at a Kobo mini to replace the oldest Nia while differentiating it from the Clara 2E. Preferably with small side buttons. But then again, who knows what they'll do. Last edited by E'lir; 09-29-2023 at 04:26 PM. |

I have the original Libra. In my opinion, we don’t need any improvements. I actually never use it lol not since I got the sage and the eliosa

Has anybody compared the battery life between the Elipsa 1 and 2? I'd prefer to keep the sluggishness of dictionary lookups over the reduced battery life that would come with using the Sage's CPU in the Libra.

I didn't mean using the exact same CPU as the Sage has; that's a bit of a mess. Modern Kindles have a faster processor without sacrificing their battery life, so why shouldn't Kobo be able to do it?

I would like the buttons to be smoother. I would like to see the dark option not hidden away on page 2 of the settings, but right on top. And also to have a full dark everywhere, not just the book. |

You can already have dark mode everywhere if you use the option to invert the screen, but it will also invert images.

I agree with that. Buttons are ok enough for me, and I don't use the dark mode. I actually have no wishlist re the software; it also is good enough for me as it is (with patching, which I don't mind doing).
Less general bugginess would be nice, but I'm not very hopeful in that regard. Edit: I forgot, I do have a wish regarding the software. I wish Kobo would improve their kepub renderer, especially word spacing, to match the epub renderer. Yes, we can patch and edit the conf file and so on, but it's still annoying. I agree. Kindle are doing a better job with KFX in that regard.

You don't have to patch the firmware. You can enable it in the configuration file or use NickelMenu if you want to toggle it more frequently.

I would love for the next white Libra to actually be more light gray to better match the colour of the screen. See the white Leaf 2 and Remarkable 2 (though without the fancy outer border in another colour). This would allow the body of the Libra to be more akin to extra margins.
A bug free faster processor that works flawlessly in Koreader would be nice, too. |

I only use the Libra 2 in contexts where I need a good battery - which is why I bought it before being hospitalized - or as a spare wheel when traveling and it would be a disaster if I had problems with my beloved Sage.
I would use the Libra 2 more if it was lighter, and if the screen was as good as the Sage's. It is yellowish, though not as much as the first Libra which I exchanged twice because of it. I ended up giving the Libra to a cousin who has very bad eyes. She resisted somewhat since she loved the Clara I had given her before, but was immediately convinced once she started reading. Otherwise, I wish Kobo did a new Sage with a better battery, and an Elipsa with a better screen, comfort light and buttons. |
