What displays in an e-reader with that formatting? A paragraph consisting of a non-breaking space with that formatting followed by a default-formatted paragraph of the actual text (I'm assuming most readers would catch the naked text and wrap it in paragraph marks)?

Maybe it's a poor-man's attempt at double spacing the paragraphs.

For what it is worth, I suspect that this text was taken from Scribd. Looking at Bantam Episodes - 006 - The Savage Curtain, the text appears identical including the extra hyphens.

Is the official stance of MobileRead now "don't ask, don't tell" when it comes to copyright violation?

We don't want copyrighted books posted here. We also don't want people saying things like; "Piracy is great! come join the pirate crew at piratecrew.c0m". Other than that, the policy has always been, "if they don't come right out and say it/do it, don't worry about trying to get them to do so." Especially not regular members. We're not the internet police.

Regular members can report what they suspect is copyright violation (true copyright violation, not unfounded suspicion or code snippets) and then let mods decide whether it runs afoul of our rules or not.

No need to delete. It's just a snippet of code (and a picture of it at that). Your intent was clear to me. But some around here like to put on their deerstalker hats and go sleuthing for offense rather than just rolling with the humorous intent.
