Greek Unicode with markdown

I am using Calibre 5.37.

I have a markdown document which is a mix of English and Greek in unicode.

If I add it to Calibre and then view it with the book viewer the Greek letters show as diamonds. If I try to convert it needless to say the epub shows diamonds too.

If I take the markdown document and paste it into a Libreoffice document save it and if I add it to Calibre and convert it to epub both the English and Greek show fine.

Is there a way to import the markdown directly? Rather than having to convert it to odt first?

Thanks.

calibre has no issues with unicode in markdown. Make sure the mardown file is encoded as UTF-8 and select UTF-8 as the input encoding in the conversion dialog.

I found out some more information. If the file has an md extension the unicode text is not read correctly. If I rename the file with a txt extension the unicode is read correctly.

I assume I don't have some setting correct. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I reread the documentation. Calibre does support markdown but does not support markdown file extensions. You need to rename the file to have a txt extension before adding it to Calibre.
