Question Help! I think I fixed the initial Check Library issue, but now there's another one

Hello! This is the first time I've encountered an issue using calibre. I searched around and I think I've resolved the initial issue, but I have a question about where to go from here. So here's what happened:

Minutes after I added a book to calibre the .epub file went missing. The format showed as being there but when opening the path the file was not in the folder. I have a backup of my library and of this file.

I removed the book in calibre and then re-added it. Then I ran Check Library and found 4 instances where .pdfs were missing from other books (added a long time ago) as well, though the .azw3's (the original formats) were still there for those books.

I'm not synced to anything and my library folder is on an external ssd. After resolving the issues found in Check Library via Fix Marked and then converting the .azw3 files to .pdf again, I ran Restore Database just in case the .db file was corrupt.

So here's where my question comes in. I ran Check Library again and now the old database file metadata_pre_restore.db is showing up under "Invalid Authors". Do I delete this file manually? Do I leave it there and just pretend it's not showing up in Check Library? What do I do? (And did I even handle the issue properly in the first place?) Thanks for any help you can give me!

What version of calibre?

My Test library has a metadata_pre_restore.db file, version 6.22 Check library reports no problems with that library - it's been there since March 2022.

Added: leave it there for now, then if no one comes up with a reason to keep it, remove it.

I'm running Windows 7, so when I installed calibre in 2020 it recommended I use version 3.48, which I am still running. I realize this is an older version of the program. I really just started using it more consistently this year so I am definitely still learning the ins and outs of it. Thanks for your advice! I really appreciate it.

I can confirm my Test library gets the same 'error' with version 3.48 Check library.

Is your computer able to run Windows 10 64-bit? If so, you can still upgrade for free and then you'd be able to run the latest version of calibre. There is a lot you are missing out on because of only being able to run such an old version of calibre.

Upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10 for free

You've posted that before and according to MS it doesn't apply to all Windows 7 installs. I've found this to be the case twice. You can get a Win10 installed, but screen background goes black and MS want paid.

Upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10 for free
stop bugging people to upgrade their systems.

that is, unless you're willing to pay the cost of new hardware for them.

A lot of Windows 7 systems can run Windows 10. It's that the user chooses to stay with Windows 7 even though it's no longer supported and a lot of software does not work such as calibre 6.x.

I don't think 6 will even install on W7, so no 6 issue.

Wasn't the 'free' W7 -> w10 was for a limited time?
What annoys me about keeping old (32 bit) systems running, is MS pulled existing updates (to me, unsupported is no NEW updates specific to that OS), making a drive restore a pain .

An upgrade to W10 is still free. If the computer is 64-bit, then calibre 6 can be run once W10 is installed. IMHO, there's no reason to run W7 as long as the computer can run W10 64-bit.
