calibre - windows 11 - shorten or change app name
can this be done
in win 11, new build, new install - start menu entry is "calibre 64 bit - ebook management" which is way too long to appear neatly when pinned to start how can i make it just say calibre ( which is the installed .exe name) where does win11 Get the long name from, and is it editable- i dont see any rename option. but i know that it is 64 bit and for ebook management - i dont need to be constantly reminded of that |

Should be pretty simple..
Right click on the start menu entry "calibre 64 bit - ebook management" Select "More" Select "Open file location" This is the shortcut used in the start menu. Simply rename it and the containing folder. |

If you change the name of the calibre shortcut folder from "calibre 64 bit - ebook management" to "calibre whatever" it might revert on the next update unless you uncheck the relevant option in the Advanced section of the install. Ditto the actual shortcut files.

I'm running Win11 here. I have the calibre shortcut icon on the task bar. The icon has no text under the icon. When I hover over the icon, I do see the text for the shortcut pop-up.

How about this, which adds a step to Karellen's instructions? (I don't know if you should unpin calibre from Start before doing this, then pin it again when you're done, or if it matters.) Click on Start Near the top right click on All apps Scroll down in the All apps list till you come to "calibre 64bit - E-book management" and right click on it. Select More Select Open file location Do a single left click on the app name "calibre 64bit - E-book management." It should become highlighted and you should be able to change it. |

I suspect that an attempt was to rename the folder and not the app. See the attached image from Windows 11. The app icon labelled as calibre was originally 'calibre 64bit - E-book Management'.
