Kindle paperwhite (10th edition) slow and busy UI

My only issue with my Kindle paperwhite (10th edition) is that the User Interface (UI) is a bit slow. I used to like it on older firmware where you didn't have to have pictures of books showing in the library. Just a simple list of books in text. Now the library is all a bit 'busy' and I yearn for something cleaner.

I don't want to put old firmware on it as I am sure there are other security fixes and things in there. But I do wish I could turn off all the pictures of the books and just see the text. And I think the pictures slows it down a little bit (I only have 4 or 5 books on it at a time)

I wonder if the 11th edition has a faster processor which would make it quicke? But wouldn't solve the cluttered UI issue

Are Kobos the same in terms of having pictures of books everywhere?

Yes, the 11th gen is faster. And yes, Kobos have pictures too. Unless you install and use KOReader.

Unless newer kindle firmwares have completely ditched list view, it is possible to enter list view and never see the "busy screens" again.

I think they now have pictures in the list view too.

The sluggishness may have nothing to do with displaying thumbnail images (it isn't the only place where performance lags behind), but in any case you do always get them, even in List view.

It might be interesting to side load some dummy content without covers and see if it is any faster.
