Just a heads up. I saw a contest on KOBO that if you read 3 books ( by August I believe) you have a chance to win a KOBO Sage Pack of some sort.

And for those who are wondering why Quebec residents were excluded? If you run a contest that is open to Quebec residents, under Quebec's provincial laws, Quebec residents must win the prizes. For this contest, Kobo would basically need to run 2 contests, one for the rest of Canada and one for Quebec residents with equal prizes. For most contests, the simple answer is excluding Quebec residents.

Quite the opposite; it's to protect residents of Quebec from getting scammed. However, since these protections are more stringent than those in most other provinces and states in North America, it is usually easier (read: less expensive) for a company to simply exclude Quebec. See this article for a lengthy list with just some of the requirements to hold a contest in Quebec.

Those warnings remind me of reading the label on a jar of peanut butter. The warning "Caution: May contain peanuts" was very humorous—to me, at least.

I vaguely remember that that one of the original reasons was that Quebec residents would not be sending money outside of Quebec and the Quebec economy would benefit from that money staying home.

But sweepstakes/lotteries are a tax on the poor, so Quebecois are better off.

Still, they do seem to have some odd local laws. Ironic that the French authorities don't regard Canadian French Movies / TV as French, though I forget the details.

Got to be a mistake. It's a diamond, sapphire or similar gem mounted on an alloy tube. It's probably not a good idea to eat them just on mechanical issues.

Over-warning desensitises people. A version of "crying wolf", so serious threats get ignored.
