Is it possible to highlight the selected text without the automatic pop-up being turned on?

no highlighting happens only through the selection bar

Thank you. Automatic pop-up is optional, which seems convenient to me. But functions?

There is no way to trigger most fo the functions without the bar. The ability to suppress it was added for people that like to select text as they read.
