Searching on the highest series_index od series

I would like to search for the books with the highest series_index in each series.

I don't know of a simple (built in) check.
The quality check plugin has a check for series GAPS.

If you sort on the Series column DESCENDING, the highest will be the start of a series change

Another way is to make a CSV catalog (title, author, series, series number) and use a spreadsheet Max() on the series number
