Add Type of File Column and file location

Hi,
I have used Calibre several time and think it's a great program. I recently started using it again, and failed at 2 attempts to customize it. There are so many options, that I was surprised to find that I could do neither of these things:

1. Add a "type file" column to the main reader. I would like to be able to sort between epubs and pdfs
2. Change the location of where imported files reside
3. Change the default location of where converted books reside.

I searched the manual and could not find anything to do these things. Did I miss something? Can anyone help? Thanks!!

  1. You can enter format:epub or format:pdf in the search box. If you want to see the file type in a custom column, see Manichean's post at Calibre - show format. Oddly, the number one hit for a Google search on "calibre create column for file type" (without the quotes).
  2. You can create a library at any location you choose.
  3. Want to change the library structure? See Want to change folder structure or file names in the Calibre library?.

Do read the FAQ section in the (click)Help
Also do read the stickies in each forum section. Lotsa 'been there, want that' covered

1) You do not need a column showing to filter:
Search formats:PDF or use the Tag Browser: formats section: (click to see just those)
IMHO adding a custom column to show available formats in the grid adds bloat to the db (slows performance a bit)

2 and 3) You can only Move the entire Library (new LOCAL drive or location). Nothing else is allowed (you will break things if you fool around using the OS). In and conversions are stored together

For #2: You don't want to go mucking around with Calibre's library structure. Treat the library folder as a black box. Don't touch!

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=119175

However, if you want to export the books back out, look at Preferences > Saving Books to Disk> Save Template. This page explains the template language. GPM won't work.

Probably the same amount of times as the "don't put Calibre on a network or cloud storage drive" FAQ entry.
