Footnotes?
How do I make footnotes work with the standard reader software? I have a book with a footnote reference:
Code:
<p>Text text text <a href="#fn1t" id="fn1s" role="doc-noteref" epub:type="noteref">[1]</a> Code:
<aside id="fn1t" role="doc-footnote" epub:type="footnote"> <p><a href="#fn1s">[1] Footnote text</a></p> </aside> This book validates in EbookCheck 5.0 as Epub3.3. and the footnote works both in Calibre's viewer (pop-up) as well as in KOReader (real footnote at bottom of screen) and to varying degrees in several other readers as well. I read the specs on Github and it looks like Kobo has some special way of showing footnotes, but is the footnote support in vanilla software really this rudimentary? Since this is just my own modifications to a PG book, I'm not terribly concerned with it and will probably just continue using KOReader, but it bothers me why the standard viewer cannot a display fully validating ebook properly. |

If you are reading a epub there are no pop up note in Kobo, to have them convert Your file in a kepub (with calibre or kepubify). When You read a epub with a note you should be redirected to the note but often the pressure area to recognize a note is too little and You simply don't see any effect.
Also in Kepub the pop up note doesn't works always (there are some complicated rules that You read in Github) but anyway You are redirected to the note. Last edited by ps67; 03-31-2023 at 11:41 AM. |

I did try to tap the note with my pinky too, but I guess even that is too large to trigger the [1] link. I don't really understand why Kobo displays pop-ups in kepub but not in epub since the code to do so is already there, other than as a way to get people to use their format... but oh well, at least I don't have to deal with it in a professional sense.
