Can't regiester Kindle touch 4th gen
I recently got a second-hand Kindle and I can't get it registered. I can get it on wifi, but when I put in the email and password it says can't find that account. I double checked it several times and tried perhaps 5 or 6 times, always with the same result. I did a full factory reset at this point, but no change (it was obvious this was done earlier by the previous owner but I did it anyway).
Then I checked my Email later and it said "we are sorry you are having trouble registering your kindle, please use this OTP (one time password) to register your kindle." Oh great 2nd factor and it didn't say anything about that. And of course the codes all time out after TEN minutes (most OTP codes I deal with last at least 30 minutes to an hour), so they were long dead. I tried again later and this time when I entered the information it gave a "you are not registered yet, please check your email for further instructions". I did, but no code came through this time. Tried several more times and still no codes. I ended up resetting it and then it gave me the "error no account could be found" like the first few times, but DID give me a one time password in email a minute later. BUT when I put that in the password field on the Kindle, error. Would not accept it. Tried multiple times with different codes, always the same result. I did check and apparently Amazon removed the ability to register the serial number on the website, at least easily. I came across an article that said you could still do it by contacting support. Well I did and the guy I got told me to go click the link on the "manage my kindle" which doesn't exist any more lol. Nice, they really train their reps well don't they? This is insane. They make it so secure it won't work lol. Or more likely they have cut off registering older kindles. I double checked and it has the latest firmware 5.3.7.3 So I am at a loss on what to do next, other than play see how far I can kick a kindle lol. Last edited by DBDigital; 03-04-2023 at 04:37 PM. |

*points to above*
I did, they pointed me to the "manage my kindle" and "register your kindle" link, both of which do not exist any more lol. There is "manage my devices" but under that there isn't a way to register your kindle. From what I have read, they removed that last year or so. Last edited by DBDigital; 03-04-2023 at 05:01 PM. |

They used to be really good about not giving up until your problem is solved. Some even recognize their scripts don't work and send you to the 2nd level, a real tech support. Amazon tries to use trained monkeys first. Have you tried to enter your password twice? First time put username and pw, try again with same information.

As for password twice, oh yes, even more than twice. No dice. Tried it more, still errors. Tried normal password, one time password, standing on my head, you name it lol. I either get the "no such account" error and then I get a OTP in email. Or the "your registration is not yet complete check your email for instructions" which nothing ever actually gets sent with that error. I am starting to think either this device has been banned (although from what I have read the error is different) OR (and more likely) Amazon is killing off older devices from registering. It is 5.3.7.3 which according to https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...MQC26VQQMM8XSW Is the current version for a Kindle Touch (4th Generation) The 4.1.4 is for Kindle (4th and 5th Generation not touch apparently). But still worth testing to see if it registers I think since they should be roughly the same age and if Amazon cut off registrations for the Kindle touch I think the others would be as well. |

Oh hey no problem at all. Appreciate you trying. Sometimes they take a long time if they are dead or almost to it. Most li-ion batteries are that way and trickle (emphasis on trickle) charge until they get high enough to boot, then they kick in the fast charge. Sometimes it take take hours or over night.

I've tested registration on an unregistered no-touch Basic and it went through (when I remembered to check my email for the second password, after the third attempt). So, unfortunately, there may be a specific issue with your Kindle Touch. Amazon support used to be able to get this kind of thing straightened out.

EDIT: I've tested this with a Kindle Touch now (and it registered). When I entered my Amazon account email and password it came up with an error and said to check my email. Got the code in my email, but I had re-enter my email address and then I used the second, 6 digit number, password. And that worked. Not sure why it goes completely out of the registration, but it does. It's confusing, because it makes you think you have to re-enter your account password. The No-Touch Basic is much clearer here. With the second OTP, you used the e-mail and OTP right? Not both passwords. Just checking I wasn't missing something and needed both even though the email didn't mention using both |

I registered both a touch and a non-touch Kindle 4 last week.
I went into my Amazon account and disabled two factor authentication first. I then registered the Kindles - this triggered the authentication code by email mentioned above. I then switched the two factor authentication back on afterwards. I made sure both Kindles had the latest firmware before trying this. |
