Turn off auto-collapse of tags in the nav pane?

I have imported a set of EPUB files and am trying to tag them appropriately. I am not sure what tags I already have that might apply, so I expanded all the tag levels to overview things and then began to collapse areas that didn't seem to apply to my current tagging.

Any change to the tag system seems to cause the automatic collapse of all tag groups (with occasional exceptions). Examples:
  • this tag was auto-imported and I don't need it; right-click, delete the tag: all tag groups collapse except the parent of the tag I just removed.
  • this tag should apply to the book I am attempting to tag; edit tag field (directly from the tag column, not by entering the "Edit metadata" screen), add the tag, hit enter: all tag groups auto-collapse.

Is there a setting where I can keep this from happening?

No I'm afraid not, basically after every delete the entire tag browser is rebuilt and all state is not preserved just the state of the tag group being currently operated on.
