new cybook user

just received my cybook today and i must say it is a nice piece kit,it looks better than any of thie pictures that i`ve seen on the net and it was very easy to understand the controls. i have read ebooks for aqbout 6 years now on a palm pda but now that i am a diabetic the strain reading with a backlit screen was starting to strain my eyes so i decided to buy a ereader (got money for christmas).
ordered it from wh smith on 27th dec received email on 29th dec saying that the cybook was out of stock and that it would be 4 weeks till they would have stock in again,so i emailed them to cancel and when i had confirmation the order was cancelled i was going to waterstone`s and buy a sony prs then got email on 30th saying the cybook had been dispatched and i received it today 31st dec, so as you can guess i am not going to buy a sony prs afterall.
i read mostly sci fi (asimov ac clark, heinlein,ee doc smith).
so to end i am glad that i got a cybook.
ps: should i upgrade the firm ware because the spec on the cybook said that there was only 64mb but when connected to computer it show it to 512mb...........ylefox:

I hope you enjoy using your CyBook. You probably already have the newest firmware. You can check in the 'About' menu item. I'd be interested to hear what firmware version number your have on your Cybook.

Only the first few batches of the CyBook came with 64MB internal memory. They've come with 512MB internal memory for several months now.

There's some classic SF here on the Mobipocket downloads section:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/ebo...28&genreid=sff

A good source for free recent SF is the Baen free library:
http://www.baen.com/library/

More free books from Baen can be downloaded from the fifth imperium site:
http://baencd.thefifthimperium.com/

Yet more Baen books can be bought for very reasonable prices at webscription.net:
http://www.webscription.net/

Other SF/Fantasy can be bought at various ebook stores. My favourite is fictionwise:
http://www.fictionwise.com/

Other prefer Books on Board:
http://www.booksonboard.com/

That's a surprise. Current firmware is version 1.2, build 796. I'd recommend upgrading, as 1.2 build 796 has several useful bug fixes. (See https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Cybo...roubleshooting for details of firmware versions.)

You can download the 796 firmware from the bookeen web site. http://www.bookeen.com/support/ebook-downloads.aspx

You'll need to register at the Bookeeen web site to access the download, and you'll need an SD Card to be able to install it.
