Full text search

I am sure this has been raised before, but I can't find any reference:

The Full text search is a quantum-leap in the usefulness of Calibre

HOWEVER

If you add new books, then (it appears) a full index is required to include the new books. Why can't new books be incrementally added?

I tend to agree that this would have been better posted in a calibre forum.

In my experience since Kovid added full text indexing, newly imported or books moved between libraries will require indexing but the remainder of the library will not.

For example, about 15 minutes ago, I moved 20 books from my intake library to my main library. Showing indexing status showed 13754 of 13772 books indexed and a couple of minutes later, it showed all book files indexed.

You will eventually need to vacuum the FTS index files to clean moved/deleted book information but this is more or less standard for databases. To do this check the Also compact the Full text search database option in the Library maintenance/Check the database file popup.

They are indexed when added.

I just added 'book' to my test library that I knew had some unique words.

Seconds later I went into FTS, and did a search for Myocarditis - et voila:

I suggest an Admin move Steve0412's post and responses to the calibre Library management forum.

Make sure something isn't locking full-text-search.db. Antiviruses are one culprit. If you have your library on an NAS or something like Dropbox/OneDrive/GDrive, take it out as they don't play nicely with Calibre.
