Unhappy Can no longer buy kindle books through Android app

OK, this is going to make life difficult until Google and Amazon make nice with each other. Amazon (who doesn't mind sending you lots of suggestions of kindle books to buy on the Kindle reader app) is fighting a Google grab of a % of digital content bought through the Kindle reading app.

Examples: I downloaded a book and wanted to read the next one in the series suggested by the final page. Suddenly you can't do that through the app. (Ah, those late night reads of the next in a series). You have to save book info and go online direct to Amazon.com to buy. AND, I noticed a new book by an author I like on my Android tablet. I decided to buy through my Amazon shopping app. NO LUCK. Again, I have to go online on my computer to make Kindle ebook purchases now.

Was there a glitch? NO, Amazon has disabled buying through the Android app. This entirely passed me by until I read about it on CNET. Sigh. This is good for my reading budget but bad for me. Hope they can work this out.

I *think* you can still buy from Amazon on the mobile browser. That's what I normally do, unless it's changed in the last day or so. I don't have the Amazon app installed on my tablet, so links load in Chrome mobile.

Yes, it bites definitely, but I don't blame Amazon in this case. Too much of their % lost with Googles new terms.

For what it's worth, Back in 2020, Google added a requirement that in-app purchases under Android use the Google Play billing system. It's taken them a couple of years but that requirement is now being enforced.

See Understanding Google Play’s Payments policy for more information (or a cure for insomnia ).

I used to think this created 'poor user experience' but long ago shifted to buying everything with a web browser. Even if Google and Apple reversed course on their policy, I'd continue to do this.

However, I wish it were easier to bypass the trappings of the storefront and recommendations (i.e. stay in Library rather than reverting to Home as you can on Kindle).

B&N and PocketBook disabled buying via their apps a few months ago. There's just no way they could sustain a 30% commission hit to Google for each sale. Just pure greed on Google's part.

I thought Amazon had somehow escaped this extortion scheme, but I guess not.
