How to delete file not in manifest?

Hi, I got an EPUB from someone else and when I open it in Sigil, I get a message saying "Files exist in epub that are not listed in the manifest, they will be ignored"... The file in question is "OEBPS/Images/Thumbs.db".

How do I delete this file from Sigil? I even tried saving the file, but Sigil does not remove it automatically.

So far, I have to rename the file as .zip and manually go in the right folder to delete the file. There must be a way to do it directly from Sigil?

That's how you do it.

As per the message Sigil will ignore it because it isn't properly manifested....and a Thumbs.db file is not a valid ePub file type.

You should beat whoever gave you that ePub severely around the head and neck with a wet noodle for giving you such an invalid ePub.... And maybe teach them how to correctly make one!

There is a DeleteUnmanifestedFiles plugin for Sigil. See the Sigil plugin index that shows the freely available plugins:

.....Yup...Oct 2019...just before I got a bad case of covid and lost a lot of brain cells!

Doesn't the Calibre plugin Modify ePub do this? In the section Manifest is "Remove unmanifested files from ePub". Assuming you use Calibre of course.

This question was asked in the Sigil forum not the Calibre or epub forums so a Sigil solution was provided.

Another solution that works for Sigil is to save the ePub and then using a program such as WinRAR or 7-Zip, open the ePub (it is a ZIP archive) and delete the file(s) you want.
