Bricked Kobo Touch

My Kobo Touch bricked itself.

I've tried the paperclip reset, and charging it up overnight, no good.

I'm wondering if the SD Card image method might work, if someone can send me an image.

I pulled the card out and looked at it with my PC, it detected three partitions - two unformatted, and a third with all the Digital Editions books seemingly intact, it scanned with no errors. Does anyone know whether the two unformatted partitions indicate an error, or is that how it is meant to appear - maybe they have Kobo OS/boot data on or something?

. . . we have bought a new Libra 2 (ooooh, sound and lights!) so this is not an urgent project, just would be nice if we could resurrect it.

The paperclip button is just a restart, not a reset. If there are any signs of life at all, have you tried a manual factory reset? https://help.kobo.com/hc/en-us/artic...our-Kobo-Touch

Since it's a Touch, though, it could just be that the battery has finally given out. (I'm a bit amazed that any are still alive.) Enjoy your Libra 2!

Oh, I forgot about that. I thought paperclip was factory reset.

I did the combo and it's currently "Restoring". Wish me luck!

Hmm. I may have proper bricked it now.
It was on "Restoring" for an hour and although it had been charged, I was worried that the battery might not be good enough for it to restore, so I plugged it in while restoring.

Apparently that's a mistake. The screen has gone white and now it won't do anything. *facepalm*

I thought that the factory reset could be restarted again and again. Are you sure not that's your problem?

I plugged it in to charge for 3 hours today and then tried again, and it is currently on "Connected and charging", and I'm going through the PC software update.

Yes, I think this might be the cause. I'll go to the battery specialist in town and see if they can sort me out a replacement.

I've just this minute starting charging a Kobo Glo HD that's been unused in a drawer for months. So far, the same thing as you're experiencing--a blank screen. Patience will be required, I think, to charge and update this poor neglected Kobo. I dropped my not very old Kobo Clara on the garage floor a few months ago and cracked the bezel right above the on/off button. Can't believe I did that. Mostly I'm using my Libre H2O, which I love. But it's nice to have a smaller Kobo to pop in a backpack or purse.

I have a backpack and a smallish bag. Both can hold my Libra 2 no problem. There's no need (IMHO) for a smaller Reader if you get a decent decent bag.

Just on update on trying to revive the Kobo Glo HD I hadn't used for about a year. After charging it for eight hours, the screen remained black with a few diagonal white slashes, and a red light kept flashing near the on/off button. A hopeless case, I thought. But two days later I picked it up and opened the sleep cover to find my Kobo Glo HD completely restored. I've been reading on it since with no problems. A little Kobo miracle?

What if a person prefers a smaller reader?

In Jon's world, no such person could exist.

Which seems very out of touch with reality, seeing how so many peolke seem to want/own 6" readers, not to mention all the people who say they want a 5" reader.

Lots of us don't want bags. The 5" PRS-350 fits any pocket. Fortunately any pockets I have for 6″ ereaders work with the Libra (original), but the Sage is too big for any pockets, though my favourite reading size.

A 6" without side panel buttons is the most portable you can buy apart from strange Chinese models with no touch. The Nook Simple Touch 6″ was too wide. There is a reason it's the most popular for commuting etc.

No, the Hisense eInk mobiles are the most portable. Look at the android subforum for Hisense A5, A7, A5 cc Pro, etc. Of course they do have a higher price tag than 6"ereaders.

I have a A5 cc Pro for a few years and although, I hate that I can't root it, yet, it does allow me to continue reading any book that I was reading at home on my 10.3" Onyx Boox Note Pro.
Be aware though that the 1st generation color versions are a bit more grey-ish than the B&W. So that's still a trade off. Hopefully, future generations will be better.

We're getting off-topic, though.

I'm just saying that there's no need to get a smaller Reader if you are thinking a 7" is too larger to fit in your bag.
