Hi, I recently performed a jailbreak on my Kindle PW1 because I wanted more customization and freedom with the device. I had downgraded to software version 5.3.3 in order to perform the jailbreak. Now that I've went ahead and purchased a couple new Kindle books after the fact, I'm noticing that I'm not able to download, or even see them, on this device (they do not appear in either the Cloud nor Device section).
Some observations: - These books do appear on other devices, such as the Kindle app for my phone. - Special Offers (ads) are also not appearing on this device - Even though I am connected to wifi, the option to update is greyed out (this is probably normal for the jailbreak, but also leads me to believe that certain Amazon services are blocked by it). - At the same time, the Kindle Store is still accessible and functional. I am unfortunately rather unfamiliar with Kindle jailbreaking since I only did this quickly in an effort to have improved epub support, so if there is some crucial piece of information I did not pick up on when performing this, do let me know! Is this kind of jailbreak simply incompatible with retaining Amazon services (perhaps because of the older OS version)? Thanks in advance for the help! ![]() |

After jailbreaking you can update back to the latest firmware version (5.6.1.1), just make sure that before doing firmware update you install the latest version of "jailbreak hotfix" from the snapshots thread so that jailbreak can survive firmware update/install. Reboot couple of times after doing the firmware install.
Having jailbreak on your PW1 will have zero effect on "improved epub support" (if we are talking about using Kindle's stock reader software and not about using KOReader to read epubs??? which is one of the thing that having jailbreak makes possible). The only somewhat major difference that such old Kindle firmware has in regards to books / "personal documents" is that unlike the newer firmware it will not ignore manually sideloaded cover thumbnails for azw3 books with PDOC flag / cdeType so you can still use ExtractCoverThumbs script Last edited by shamanNS; 10-09-2022 at 01:26 PM. |

Okay. Though, quick question: is it normal that, despite being connected to the internet, the option to update my Kindle is greyed out? Do I need to update manually, by copying a package onto my Kindle?

Do it manually.
