Was hoping that locking would keep it simple.

I think I need more coffee because I don't understand the poll. Can you add a more explanation?

A "none of the above" choice would be useful.

I would like to un-dock the Tag browser to give more room for columns (I already ditched the comments section, and use the Info pane on the OTHER monitor (where I would land the Tag Browser when using it (mostly, I leave it closed)

And after thinking about it, I checked all 4.
So, let's detail an order of preference: 1) Change Column header of standard columns, It may seem anecdotal, but I have a use case where I would love to being able to change the header of some columns (at least, in terms of search we can bypass this with the "Grouped search" that work well as alias) 2) Dockable Tag Browser, Book Details etc, I don't know if a use it, but clearly, customizing the main interface and the floating/dockable windows would make Calibre even more monstrous than it already is (Although realistically, this will be the hardest thing to do). 3) Supplementary folder in Book folders - storage only, a "supplements_files" folder inside the 'book folder' would be great. I have a use case where it would be really useful to have a "catch-all folder" for various scrap that would be connected to the book and therefore automatically moved/managed by Calibre when metadata changes. 4) Link field on Category columns - like Author Link, is true that it would be useful, more customization. Especially for custom columns. Last edited by un_pogaz; 10-02-2022 at 11:28 AM. |

How does "Dockable Book Details" differ from the existing detached book details window?

![]() I show all columns and hide the cover in the detached (press I) BD, I show a subset of the columns and the cover in the embedded DB. I mainly use the detached BD when I want to see what I have in calibre when I'm using another application. See attachment. If warranted I roll up the main calibre window and I usually park the detached DB window on top (via Actual Title Buttons). I use Roll Up because the detached BD will follow the main window if its minimised. By having the embedded BD dockable I assume the need to restart calibre when it's moved wouldn't be necessary. I'd be disappointed if the outcome of making BD, TB, CB etc dockable panels resulted in the removal of the detached BD. It's the sort of thing that MS do - e.g. ALL Win 11 taskbars SHALL be located at the bottom edge ![]() BR |

Either in Quickview place, which is dockable on the bottom of the UI, or in place of the Cover Browser... something like: browsing the comments (synopses) for each title... |

What I call the embedded BD can be positioned under the book list or at the left edge via the Look & Feel->Main Interface->User interface layout: setting, Wide will put it at left edge, Narrow under the book list. It needs a restart to take effect. If QV is docked it will land above the bottom edge BD - see attachment.
You can scroll the embedded and detached BDs using the keyboard (default is Space/Shift+Space) via the Scroll Book Details plugin. BR |

FTR - if it were a preferential poll I would vote : 1. Link field on Categories, 2. Supplementary folder, 3. Change Column header, 4. Dockable Panels. The other place I initiate polls automatically includes the None of the Above option - and there's a time window to edit the poll. Which is my excuse for not including None of Above. FWIW: undocking the various bits has a significant problem: the calibre keyboard shortcuts stop working when undocked. For QuickView I had to decide on case-by-case which shortcuts to allow, and then find their current value. I ended up supporting only "Toggle Quickview", and put some other shortcuts into a context menu.
