Questions about screen refresh
Sorry! I couldn't find the answer in the docs, so I am asking here. I am looking at my KOreader settings, and I see something called "avoid mandatory black flashes in UI". How is this different than the refresh rate? What is the mandatory flashes? Is this healthy for the device?
I also see refresh rates like 12:12 pages and 99:99 pages. I don't understand what that means. I am ok with some loss of clarity on the screen while reading if it means less flashes. Also, if anyone has general advice for keeping the battery healthy and long lasting, that would be great. My kobo is refurbished, so I don't know if that means a shorter lifespan or not. |

Refreshes are how many pages you have to read (or just turn over) to get automatic refresh. 12 means 12 pages for automatic refresh.
Refurbished devices doesn't have to have shorter lifespan. It means they were repaired by factory from faulty devices. What was faulty, how it was repaired, well, no one can tell. But I have one Palm Treo 680 that I purchased refurbished and it still works. |

I would hope that refurbished devices would have a new battery installed.

The refresh rate refers to how many pages you can flip in the *reader* before we trigger a flash.
The "Avoid mandatory black flashes in UI", on the other hand, applies to a whole bunch of UI interactions that *always* flash, regardless of where you are, (usually related to menu/pop-ups on show & dismiss). It's enabled by default to avoid ghosting, but it's available as an option because YMMV, and some devices deal with it better than others. |
