Calibre menu oddity

I've noticed a oddity when I use menus in calibre. The first time after opening calibre, I get a larger version of the menu, any subsequent opening of the menu reverts to the correctly sized version.

I've attached images of what I see when right-clicking on a book and when looking at the menu for the KoboUtilities but this is consistent for all the menus I've tried.

The real question is if other people are seeing the same issue or is this an issue with my system? It's a bit annoying to me but nothing I can't live with.

I don't want to report it as a bug until some confirmation that others are seeing the same issue.

Can I help it if he wrote a batch of books with numeric titles?

I played with the High DPI settings and didn't seem to make any difference. I tried QT_ENABLE_HIGHDPI_SCALING = 0 and QT_SCALE_FACTOR_ROUNDING_POLICY = Round. What I did find was that I use 2 monitors and when I have calibre on the laptop screen where Windows scaling is set to 125%, the menus look okay. When I move calibre to the external monitor where scaling is set to 100%, I see the issue.

Doing more mucking about, I found that setting the override for High DPI scaling in the compatibility mode tab for the properties of calibre.exe to System (Enhanced) seems to fix the issue.

Edit: I also applied this setting to Sigil and the Preview screen remains that same size when re-opened or moved between screens.

I think I've seen that oddity too, then I played with all those High DPI settings and environment variables, and all is well now. What suited my use case was disabling QT scaling, as I detailed here. As for the HiDPI override settings, what works well more often for me is "scaling performed by application"

Any wild eyed guesses if they will fix the bug in the next decade?

Disabling QT's high DPI didn't seem to help, neither did setting scaling to performed by application. Basically, I had have Windows override QT to work around the issue.

At least with the workaround, I don't need to worry until the next update to QT 6.

Also note that this also worked with the Preview pane issue I was having with Sigil though the Sigil version I'm running is still using QT 5.

I have given up on their bug tracker after about a dozen bug reports were ignored. So no idea.

Yes; fixed the problem with the "scratchy" fonts when viewing an ePub in Calibre's viewer. Thanks very much for your efforts.
