FTS database size?

Is there an estimate of db size for FTS? My calibre library is stored online and I want to estimate how much space the FTS db will take up since I've read in other threads that the db can be GB large. I was wondering if there is an approximate ratio of FTS db size compared to library size that I can expect?

It depends on the size of your library, really.

Yeah, I figured that. I was wondering if there is an approximate size ratio. ie, if a library is 2 gb and the db would be 1 gb, that would give a ratio of 0.5 - would this then extrapolate to a db size of 2 gb per library size of 4 gb?

I've read threads where people talk about their db being 7+ gb in size which is a large amount of space but then I don't have a reference point on *how* big their library is - is it 1 gb or 100 gb?

This also depends on what formats you have in your library and whether you have high-resolution covers.

The library I indexed for searching is 7.6 GB and the size of the search db is 3.7 GB. In that library I have only epubs, all covers are high quality.

My main library is over 50 GB and I'm not going to index that.

Also, I believe Calibre will index every format, so if you convert a lot it'll also increase the size.

It depends on the kind of files in the library. For instance, too many bulky PDF scanned books will affect the ratio. I gather from this thread that the FTS database size may vary as much as representing just 25% to almost 60% of the total size of the library files, in some cases. A case of a 1:1 ratio has been mentioned, but that seems very unusual.
